Teenage woman raped in Brighton supermarket car park

A teenage woman was raped in a central Brighton supermarket car park.

The 18-year-old was waiting for a friend by the Sainsbury’s car park in New England Street, Brighton, at about 9.20pm on Sunday when she he was approached by two men who asked for a cigarette.

They then pulled her into the car park and one of the men raped her.

Detective Sergeant Stephen French, of Sussex Police, said: “We are at the very early stages of this investigation and are providing the woman with the support she needs. She describes these men as white, between 18 and 20 and average build.

“There a large number of flats which overlook the area and as it was a warm day on Sunday and people may have still been out on their balconies.

“The cashpoint at Sainsbury’s is also well used and people visiting that may well have seen something which could help us with our investigation.

“Anyone who might have seen something or have any information is asked to contact police on 101 or 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 1451 of 13/4.”
