Labour chooses third candidate for Goldsmid

The Labour Party has chosen its third candidate to contest Goldsmid ward at the next local elections.

Malcolm Prescott will stand for a seat on Brighton and Hove City Council alongside Jackie Quinn and Matt Irish.

He has stood in the past, including in 2002 in the Westdene by-election won by Ken Norman for the Conservatives.

Brighton and Hove Labour Party tweeted the result last night.

Others already selected include Maggie Barradell, the wife of former council chief executive John Barradell, a candidate the safe Labour seat of East Brighton.

She will stand alongisde the council’s opposition Labour group leader Warren Morgan and former leader Gill Mitchell.

In Hangleton and Knoll the former Brighton and Hove Albion chief executive Martin Perry will stand for the party with voluntary sector worker Nigel Jenner and freelance journalist Chris Henry.

Sitting councillors Leigh Farrow, Mo Marsh and Anne Meadows will run in Moulsecoomb and Bevendean.

The long-serving Councillor Les Hamilton will run again in South Portslade along with Councillor Alan Robins.

In North Portslade, Councillor Penny Gilbey has been selected to stand again along with mental health nurse Peter Atkinson.

In Hollingdean and Stanmer the candidates are Tracey Hill, Caroline Penn and Michael Inkpin-Leissner.
