Playing With Myself

It wasn’t easy to be gay in the fifties. David Forest gives us a beautifully accurate and unsentimental portrait of the life of a homosexual man growing up in the forties and fifties in his cabaret, Playing With Myself. His original songs and the stories that introduce them are both humorous and touching. He sings about how much he enjoys giving a massage to his big black friend, and praises same-sex dancing. He recalls the psychiatrist who told him he was not really gay; only searching for a father image. This is a cabaret to die for and the good news is that it will be part of the Brighton Fringe in May. You owe it to your heart to see it.
