Art Deco meets Vintage, Bauhaus and Art Nouveau, as Decofairs comes to Brighton’s Thistle Hotel

Art Deco is an influential visual arts design style which first appeared in France and Belgium after World War I, flourishing internationally in the 1930s and 1940s before its popularity waned after World War II. It is an eclectic style that combines ancient symbols and motifs with Machine Age imagery and materials. The style is often characterized by rich colours, bold geometric shapes, and ornamentation.

During its heyday, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance and faith in social and technological progress.

You may notice Art Deco is all round you in Brighton and Hove – from Shoreham Airport in the West to Embassy Court on Hove Seafront to Gala Bingo Hall on Portland Road to Saltdean’s Lido and the Grand Ocean complex in the East.

Decofairs will continue to run six Sunday fairs this year, on 15 February, 26 April, 14 June, 9 August, 11 October and 13 December. Opening hours will remain 10am–4pm and will become the home of Art Deco in Brighton selling high quality collectibles. The central focus will always remain Art Deco but we also include a small part of Vintage from 1850-1970, and other 20th century art styles such as Art Nouveau and Bauhaus.

Decofairs is the perfect opportunity for Art Deco enthusiasts to browse and purchase high quality collectibles including period memorabilia, jewellery, ceramics, clothing and accessories, lighting and lamps, clocks, statuary, prints, glass and furniture. Traders have been known to sell a stylish list of famous designers of the era including Lalique, Clarice Cliffe, Susie Cooper, Mappin and Webb, Erte and Cartier.

Decofairs Brighton and Hove will be held at the Thistle Hotel (Brighton, BN1 2GS), a four-star prestigiously located hotel, situated directly on the main road overlooking the seafront, backing onto Brighton’s historic and bustling South Lanes, minutes from Brighton Pier and Churchill Square, which is home to some of South England’s best shopping, theatre and entertainment.

Decofairs will be using the large Renaissance Suite which is fully accessible via the hotel lifts and the seafront entrance. The Lanes Car Park on Black Lion Street (with a capacity of 355 spaces) which is located underneath the Thistle Hotel is available for both visitors and stallholders to park.
