Fragments – Volume 1

Separate dance pieces delved into the lives of three different people, starting off with a beguiling, undulating performance from Kimberley de Jong. Evincing a melodic, graceful sense of movement and command of her body, de Jong’s varied styles were superb and quietly mesmerising. The second piece was more theatrical and unfortunately less memorable but the closer ‘Bicéphale’ (two-headed) was enthralling. Manuel Roque and Georges-Nicolas Tremblay embodied the contrast of the slow and fast lives of the performers themselves, resulting in a captivating, rolling sort of piece that built to an emotional and physical crescendo. The industrial soundtrack was also noteworthy for it’s loud, industrial ending that supported the powerful finale perfectly. A strange, haunting but quietly beautiful and thought-provoking work.
