Do You Hear The Rainbow Sing: Rainbow Chorus

In festive mood, I hoped that Rainbow Chorus would live up to their reputation and the promise of their performance a few days earlier at the World Aids Day concert. I was not to be disappointed. The first half was given over to seasonal merriment with an excellent selection of seasonal music to warm even Scrooge’s heart. Pop classics and classic carols in excellent arrangements sat side by side. Break-out groups tackled some of the songs with great success and the audience were even encouraged to join in “A long as you sing in tune”! Which some of us did – heartily. The first half highlight was a stunning arrangement of The Twelve Days of Christmas which combined musical dexterity with humour to great effect.
In the second half we were treated to a selection from the musical Les Misérables and this they delivered with rousing power, moving delicacy and style. It was an ambitious choice but one that they certainly pulled off. It also gave voice to some terrific solos from members of the choir. It was good to hear these songs performed so well.
The Rainbow Chorus, a group of un-auditioned people who love to sing, triumphs for three very good reasons; passion, hard work and a musical director of talent and vision, Aneesa Chaudhry, who drives them on to ever greater heights each year.
