Flowering passions

OK, I know there’s loads to see. But you’ve got the whole of October to lap up the awe-inspiring photography exhibitions around the city thanks to the 2016 Brighton Photo Biennial and Photo Fringe. So make time for a pit stop at Redwood Coffee – Le Café on Trafalgar Street where Rick Fulwood is showing his remarkable Plant/Woman imagery.

Rick only takes photographs of plants he has grown in his allotment garden, and in the latest of this series he juxtaposes the female form with red and white tulips. (Tulips represent elegance and grace, red is devotion and love, and white is purity and peace.) You’ll recognise his interest in the Dutch masters reflected in the moody, shadowy atmosphere that evokes the desperate emptiness of a loss, while the sequence of three gives an intriguing narrative quality to the work.

Until 30 October.
