Union to hold internal meeting over Southern deal

Brighton station has felt the impact of the strikes, with several businesses closing.

Drivers on the southern rail network are preparing for a meeting with their union executive this evening about a proposed deal which would see an end to strikes.

The agreement reached between bosses of ASLEF union and Govia Thameslink Railway would see drivers taking control of train door operations, in return for the presence of an addition staff member under normal circumstances.

Some drivers have said that they are unhappy with the deal, and plan to vote against it. If a majority vote against, it mean going back to the drawing board for both the unions and the company, with a possibility of fresh strikes.

The RMT Union, which represents the train guards, was not happy with the ASLEF-GTR agreement, describing it as a ‘betrayal’.
