Winner of the 2016 Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, Jessica Swale’s warm hearted, bawdy play tells the story of an unlikely heroine, who went from lowly orange seller to win the adoration of the public and the heart of the King.

When asked what Nell Gwynn is about, Jessica answers:
“It is 1660. The Puritans have run away with their drab grey tails between their legs. Charles II has exploded onto the scene with a love of all things loud, French and sexy. And at Drury Lane, a young Nell Gwynn is selling oranges for sixpence. Little does she know who’s watching”.

Nell is played by Laura Pitt-Pulford who you may have seen in Oliver!, The Sound of Music, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and the UK tour of Guys And Dolls. The play is directed by Christopher Luscombe who has directed many shows at Theatre Royal Brighton including The Shakespeare Revue, Blue/Orange and Rocky Horror Show. Do not miss this right royal treat!
