Ghost and Zombi

Astride the stage on which Abba won Eurovision, their fellow Swedes, pop-metallers Ghost, served up an equally camp slice of theatrical rock. With synth/drums prog duo Zombi supporting, evoking the creepiness of ’70s Italian slasher films, the headliners upped the ante with their quasi-religious blend of Alice Cooper posturing, Rocky Horror musical tomfoolery and devastatingly hooky heavy riffs. His nuns handing out booze to fans, Papa Emeritus, figurehead of this “Popestar” tour, was a dazzling frontman, musing on topics as charming as cannibalism to female orgasms. The odd keytar, masked ghoul musician and pyrotechnic flourish thrown in made for an unashamedly ridiculous spectacle.
