With a city led by the country’s first ever Green MP, one Brighton University student embraces eco living at One Brighton

Having elected the country’s first ever Green MP, residents of Brighton are clearly keen to keep environmental considerations at the top of the political agenda. With sustainable considerations in mind, one Brighton University student, Danielle Close, was very keen to live at One Brighton – a development jointly developed between Crest Nicholson and Bio-Regional Quintain – because of its attractive zero-carbon qualities, and she was able to do so with the help of her parents.

Danielle’s father, Richard said: “Danielle began renting in Eastbourne, the location for her lectures, but we simply found that renting was a waste of money. We felt that the location of One Brighton was far more desirable for Danielle who was keen to live in the city, therefore we decided to invest and bought a two bedroom apartment at One Brighton. The thought given to the eco-credentials is really impressive and we are keen to keep the property as a long-term investment.”

Benefiting from striking architecture that draws upon innovative and high quality continental design, the 172 studio, one and two bedroom apartments offer stylish, city centre homes. One Brighton has been designed to follow the 10 guiding principle principles of One Planet Living, ensuring the properties are part of an environmentally advanced development where residents will benefit from happier, healthier lifestyles.

“The eco attributes of this development are so impressive and partly because they require no effort at all,” says Danielle. “The recycling bins are already segregated and ready to use; the green caretaker is really helpful, and I can’t wait to get my hands on an allotment. I’m really enjoying living in such a modern and brilliantly located development with amazing views of the city and with excellent access to the train station, which is really handy for me to get to lectures. I also intend to make use of the car club for shopping trips and days out.”

Residents at One Brighton are able to capitalise on several unique features of the development for an enhanced lifestyle; roof top allotments and balcony planters are an integral part of the development where residents are encouraged to grow their own produce. A rain water harvesting system provides ample irrigation For those who enjoy outside space in which to relax, sky and roof gardens along with Brighton’s newest square provide ideal places to unwind.

In the home, kitchens are fitted with segregated rubbish bins to help residents divide their waste with ease. Organic waste bins have also been provided and the contents of which are transferred to an on-site composter. Furthermore, all apartments have been fitted with water efficient fittings, taps and appliances. In order to optimise energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions, the scheme is powered by energy from renewable sources.

Negating the need for a car, One Brighton is linked to local cycle routes leading into the city and also to Brighton Station. For travelling further afield, the on-site Car Club means residents can hire a car as and when they require.

Apartments at One Brighton are selling fast, with over 85 per cent of the development now sold due to popular demand. Prospective purchasers are advised to visit now to choose from a wide range of apartments still available. Prices start from £215,000 for a one bedroom apartment and from £260,000 to £305,000 for a two bedroom apartment.
