This summer sees the most important date in the cat calendar – the 2008 ‘Feline Oscars’ – the search for the UK’s favourite feline. Organised by my good friends at Sussex-based charity Cats Protection, these rescue cat awards are now on the prowl for your nominations.

Now in its fourth year, the Feline Oscars are designed to celebrate the real life stories of survival, bravery and heroism in the cat world.

I’m so looking forward to this year’s event, which promises to be better than ever, with a glamourous award ceremony being held at The Pharaohs’ Palace Hospitality Suite, which is part of the prestigious Tutankhamun Exhibition in London’s O2 Arena – a fitting venue given the ancient Egyptians’ love of cats.

“Rescue cats often have amazing tales to tell, from the touching to the truly remarkable”

This star-studded event, which takes place on Friday 1 August, will be attended by celebrity supporters who’ll be presenting prizes and paying tribute to the nation’s top rescue cats, and owners have until 27 May to enter their cats for one of these four categories:

Firstly, Hero Cat: has your cat ever saved the day? Or is your cat the Ultimate Survivor: with tales of feline survival after those nine lives have been spent? Perhaps your favourite feline has radically improved the quality of a human life, thus clearly deserving the prestigious and very moving Best Friends Award

There’s never a dry eye in the house at this event, especially when it comes to revealing the winner of the Most Incredible Story – belief defying stories that make us wish our brave cats could tell us about it.

These unique awards are open to any living cat rescued as a stray by its current owner or adopted from an animal welfare organisation.

There is something very special about each and every rescue cat – something that deserves celebrating with the Rescue Cat Awards 2008.

Rescue cats often have amazing tales to tell, from the touching to the truly remarkable and Cats Protection would love to hear those stories. Not only just to give these cats the recognition they deserve, but also to highlight how rescue cats make such wonderful pets.

The winner of this year’s Rescue Cat Awards will inherit the title from previous winner Tee Cee (pictured), a black and white cat that had been abandoned in a box as a kitten. Tee Cee was crowned the 2006 winner after amazing judges with his ability to predict when his owner was about to have an epileptic seizure – proving to be a lifeline to his family.
