Let the sun shine
With everyone looking to be greener and more energy efficient this is the dawning of Aquarius Solar Heating

As I write this I am wearing shorts and a T-shirt, it’s the end of September and the sun is blazing high in the sky. We all know about Indian summers but each year we are seeing more sunshine all year round. So what are we doing about it? Well some of us are panicking about global warming, some of us are even doing something about global warming by taking measures to be greener and more energy efficient. The clever thinking though has to be looking at the sun, and by that I mean looking at solar energy.
A few years ago solar panels were in the realms of the cranks and fanatics, the claims made for them seemed wild and were often unsubstantiated – but times have changed and Paul Chandler and Billy Hines of Aquarius Solar Heating who have been in the business for some time are totally convinced.
‘‘Solar panels can offer amazing savings, up to 70 per cent annually of your water heating bills. That means that in as little as six or seven years you could recoup your investment. Add to that solar panels are guaranteed from 20-30 years depending on which style and manufacturer you choose.

‘‘At Aquarius we have decided not to offer a single brand of solar heating but to give our clients choices. There are many to choose from, flat panels or tubular systems, and because we remain independent we can supply and install any brand.’’
Solar panels as well as heating water can also be used to power underfloor heating systems. Installation of a system is fairly simple and requires the addition of a new water tank. They can be used in conjunction with a combi boiler too although that requires a different type of installation.
For anyone who has or is thinking of installing a heated swimming pool then solar is the way forward. Rather than seven years to see a recoup of your investment a swimming pool will payback in around two years. ‘‘One panel is required for every 20,00 litres of water so installation could cost around £10,000 but with costs recouped in two years and then free heating after that it has to be the very best option.’’

With around a 70 per cent saving solar heating has become very popular with retired people but Paul Chandler and Billy Hines are very excited about the potential right across the market. ‘‘Green issues are making everyone more and more conscious of fuel use. Solar panels can go a long way toward radically reducing your carbon footprint as well as your heating bills. Installation is simple and the returns are good. Fitting them to existing properties is usually possible and modern technologies make positioning them for best effect far more simple then ever before. But we are very excited about the idea of working with new builds and property conversions where the inclusion of solar heating will add a very unique selling point for any developer. The new designs can also be far more discrete or in some cases far more interesting in terms of design and we hope to be able to show architects and designers the potential for using solar heating to great effect in both new builds and redevelopments.’’

Your idea is definitely a breath of fresh air when compared to the usual rubbish I read on solar technology. So many scams on the market. Thanks for helping me out.
