Sleek kitchens and luxurious bathrooms designed managed and fitted
Steve Mant is the managing director of In-toto in Western Road where his company specialises in the design and build of stylish kitchens and bathrooms. Along with Hayley Grumbridge, sales manager, and Christine Belsey, shop manager, they have been serving a wide range of customers who demand a certain level of service.
I asked Steve what makes In-toto different:
“We offer a full service, from design to fit and complete project management. Our clients communicate directly with Hayley and myself as the team’s designers and it will be one of us who looks after an entire project from start to finish. Our consultation service is free and that is the key to success. The biggest part of the job is creating the design brief by really getting to the heart of what kind of a kitchen a client wants and how it will be used, whether as a serious cook’s kitchen, family kitchen or social kitchen.
“Extracting that vision and turning it into a design is the heart of what we do, followed by a professional build and fit period with our own team of professionals.”
Hayley adds: “We create kitchens and bathrooms of all sizes, from complex small applications to very grand. The look is sleek and very contemporary on the whole, very individual. We like to create rooms that have staying power. A kitchen that will last 15 to 20 years in terms of quality but at the same time can be re-styled quite simply and inexpensively by changing the minimum key features. It’s similar in a way to careful accessorising in fashion.”
The showroom has recently been revamped and striking effects are created by the use of bold colours, but their application is in detailing rather than structure. The team keenly watch the trends, the move away from gas to induction cooking steam ovens, combination cookers…
“Everything is pull out these days and the look tends to be modern rather than traditional. Thirty-five per cent of our business is bathrooms, a growing area, and clients often choose to do both together, kitchen and bathroom.
I discover that Steve’s background is in plumbing and I like the idea of working with a designer who understand the nuts and bolts of the business. Hayley has five years’ experience designing and loves working with top brands like Wellmann and Geba.
“Both are German brands at the upper end of the market in terms of quality. It is essential when you are building kitchens for people who are looking for perfection. It’s why so many clients return.
“We also use a wide range of appliances from Whirlpool, AEG, Neff and Miele as well as some iconic Smeg products. Recently we have int roduced Elica hoods, real design objects.’’
