Friday 8th May
Daytime:
Malone’s MyFirstDisco! DJ’s and dancing for parents and their toddlers. Funk, hip hop, motown and indie; eclectic DJs for eclectic parents. This event is about starting off the weekend with some good tunes to remember what weekends are all about! There will be some toys for the children to play with, but the group is based around the DJs. (No kids music…this is not about old MacDonald & his farm). Happy parents = Happy Children! 3pm – 5pm. Adult & 1 child: £2.50.
Evening downstairs:
A Talk On The Wild Side with Herbie Flowers & Chris Spedding. Two legendary figures from the world of popular music play, with other musician friends, for an evening of conversation, question and answer and…music! Herbie Flowers could claim, with much justification, to be one of the most famous bass players in the world. The guy who played the famous hook on Lou Reed’s ‘Walk On The Wild Side’, Herbie’s bass work has also graced an estimated 500 hit recordings, David Bowie’s breakout track ‘Space Oddity’ included. Apart form forming successful bands like ‘Blue Mink’ and the fusion outfit ‘Sky’, Herbie also toured with David Bowie at the height of Bowie mania, was part of T Rex for a time and basically was at the very heart of the most happening scene on both sides of the Atlantic. Herbie is currently touring with Jeff Waynes (War Of The Worlds), as well working in Paris with ‘Orchestra L’Amereuse’, performing a retrospective look and listen of Serge Gainsberg’s life.
Chris Spedding, apart from enjoying a significant solo career, is one of the most versatile and experienced
session guitarists in the business. Over the last four decades or so, his CV runs like a ‘Who’s Who’ of popular music, working with names like Paul McCartney, Elton John, Tom Waits, Jeff Wayne, Bob Geldoff, Bryan Ferry, Alan Price, Jack Bruce, Nilson, Brian Eno, and John Cale, to name but a few. He also produced the early Sex Pistol demos, was part of the bill at the legendary Stones Hyde Park concert and enjoyed a top twenty hit of his own with ‘Motor Bikin’.
Both Herbie and Chris will be sharing their stories and experiences – illustrated with music demonstrations – from the times where Rock n Roll really was Rock n Roll. There will be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions and the evening will end with a music set from Chris, Herbie and friends. 8pm. £10.
