Now her second album ‘Parcel of Rogues’ is gathering acclaim from all quarters – taking a new look at the songs of Robert Burns, it’s the politics and passion of Burns, with a transatlantic twist that brings a fresh dynamic sound to modern Scotland. Avoiding ‘tradition’, it’s Burns as you’ve never heard it before!

Lemur Promotions presents…
Rachel Mac
+ Magazine Gap
+ The Alex Bay Band
There is nothing artificial about this pop/rock band, and yet its make-up is so unlikely. How in London, a city of 12 million people, does a folk-rock singer-songwriter earning his spurs on the acoustic circuit meet and musically connect with a leading R&B/Hip-Hop session drummer and producer from Hackney with several international tours under his belt, a funk bass player and master technician from Norwich, and a classically trained concert pianist and jazz maestro from Hong Kong? Certainly a cosmopolitan city is the best breeding ground for musical innovation and London is a world-leader, but mainly it is due to the highly accomplished and creative members of Magazine Gap.

Detecting earthquakes and nuclear explosions
Cyril Isenberg, University of Kent.
The science of seismology is only a hundred years old. In this time the study of seismic waves produced by earthquakes has enabled the solid-liquid-solid structure of the Earth to be established. The Apollo missions to the Moon in the 1970s and the Viking mission to Mars set up seismometers on the surface of these planets to determine their internal structure using the same techniques developed on Earth. Considerable research has also been undertaken to distinguish small nuclear underground explosions from earthquakes in order to be able to distinguish between them. Some attempts have been made by countries to mask underground nuclear explosions so that they mimic earthquakes. The lecturer will demonstrate and explain seismic wave propagation.

Wellsbourne Society
A quarterly event dedicated to the landscape, streets, myths & spirit of Brighton
Set up and hosted by Dr Bramwell and Prof Clayton (Caught by the River), this is a new quarterly event dedicated to the landscape, streets, myths & spirit of Brighton, and takes its name from the city’s lost river.
For the opening night there will be a screening of Jack Tinker’s 1978 BBC documentary: Brighton, a Town Gone to the Dogs. Esteemed historian Peter Chrisp will take us back to the early 80s when Brighton was a shabby seaside town populated by teddy boys and pub landladies with dyed green hair, and the only ‘celebrities’ were fading theatricals. There will be stories about the Wellsbourne River from Dr B. and Prof. C, with live musical accompaniment from Richard Norris (Time and Space Machine, The Grid). And more besides.
