Comedy Reviews: What laughs!

Billed as musical comedy, but with more elements of the theatrical than that would suppose, the much-awaited second show of the former teen comedy YouTube prodigy Bo Burnham served up a platter slavishly prepared, touchingly soul-baring and with some of the most ridiculously puerile yet entertaining jokes out there. Mixing up styles of satire, puns, visual gags and masses of self-examination – not much of it complimentary – Burnham dashed about the stage miming, singing, rapping and monologuing his tightly choreographed hour-long Edinburgh show into two 40 minute sections for this tour. Clearly not someone to give himself a break emotionally or professionally, Burnham’s strong work ethic paid off to the sold out crowd, captivated by the softly spoken American. A strong show, using both the broad and the detailed more subtle strokes to elicit comedy deftly, this was a treat on so many levels.
