Saltdean campaigners hold emergency meetings about Lido

Campaigners concerned about Saltdean Lido are holding a series of emergency meetings today (Sunday 4 December).

The Save Saltdean Lido Campaign wants to hear from as many residents as possible before a council meeting at which the Lido’s future will be discussed.

Rebecca Crook, chairman of the campaign group, is due to address the council meeting on Tuesday (6 December) as are representatives of the Saltdean Residents’ Association and the Saltdean Community Association.

Councillor Geoffrey Bowden, the council’s cabinet member for culture has also invited Lido leaseholder Dennis Audley.

The meetings today are at St Nicholas Church Hall in Saltdean Vale at 2.15pm, 3.30pm, 5pm and 6.15pm.

Ms Crook said: “The needs of the people of Saltdean have always been at the heart of our campaign and we have consulted the community constantly since our inception.”

The campaign was set up last year by local residents after Mr Audley announced plans to fill in the pool, demolish part of the building and build more than 100 flats.

Brighton and Hove City Council received a petition from 3,000 concerned campaigners earlier this year about the threat to the only Grade II* listed lido in England.

Six weeks ago English Heritage said that it considered the Lido to be “at risk”.
