Bags packed

I’m going away for a few days, well two nights and two and a half days to be precise. It’s a short trip to an amazing food festival in Belgium and no, it will not all be moules et frites, far from it. This promises to be a gastronomic delight.

But what does one take in terms of baggage? I am always amazed when traveling with friends how little they manage to carry. There they are with some tiny bag slung over their shoulder and there I am dragging a small wheelie cabin case along. How?
Okay, I know that as a man of a “certain” size my clothing requirements are perhaps taking up more space than a person of smaller stature, but surely not that much space. Perhaps they are the kind of people who think it is a good idea to rinse their clothes through at bedtime and dry them overnight? Well I’m sorry but I’m not doing that, nor before you suggest it am I going to go “commando”, no, not me!

Cheap luggage explodes very easily

A consequence of my dilemma is that I have gathered around me a large number of luggage options, from a small day bag to a larger day bag, a one night bag, a two night bag, a one week suitcase and a two week suitcase. Yes it could probably be categorized as some kind of disorder I know.

I also only like good quality luggage. When I was younger I realised that cheap luggage explodes very easily, especially when you overfill it, and let’s face it, we can all be guilty of that. There’s only one thing more embarrassing than seeing your worldly goods scattered across the baggage reclaim when you arrive at your holiday destination and that is seeing your worldly goods scattered across the baggage reclaim when you return home and they are all ready for the wash.

So for two days; two tee shirts, two shirts, three pairs of socks, same for underwear, a pair of jeans and a second pair of shoes. It doesn’t seem like much or am I being mad? I think not, just clean, and tidy, and weighed down once again.
