» Swanning Around: Getting physical

Alison Swann has a hot date with gym and finds she needs plenty of time to recover

I am not a natural inhabitant of the gym. Well who is? It is not natural to stand around in Lycra pulling heavy things or running on a road to nowhere. But then nor is air travel and lots of people seem perfectly happy to do that.
So, seeing as my most over-developed muscle – my tongue – got me into this situation, I summoned up the courage to face the fact that I was going to spend one whole hour with a personal trainer. It’s all part of my preparation for the 54 miles of the London to Brighton cycle ride. Read the rest of this article »

Alison Swann thinks polar bears are fun and pandas need to make more effort

Time magazine recently published a list of the ten most endangered species in the world.
Accompanying the piece were ten very eye-catching examples of wildlife photography. Thank God for long-range lenses, who wants to prove that polar bears really do have black skin under all that ‘cuddly-wuddly’ white fur, only to get batted into the air by a 12 foot high lord of the ice, who will consider your flesh a nice change from that life-long diet of seal babies.

» Swanning around: Sunday morning

Alison Swann is bullied into facing the reality of getting fit

So whose bright idea was this? Oh yeah… mine. Do I have to? It’s cold! No! These were thoughts that poked my brain as I faced the psychological assault course that would extract me from the warmth of a Sunday morning slumber into the first morning of training.

» Swanning around: On yer bike

Alison Swann is getting ready for the ride of her life

That’s going to hurt!” has been the general reception to my announcement that I am going to do the London to Brighton cycle ride. With my usual lack of foresight I signed myself up for the mass wheeling action that will be taking place on Sunday 21 June, without first stopping to find out just how far I was going to have to cycle.

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
