Brighton has been awash with celebrities around and about - if you sit at various restaurants around the city long enough you are bound spot quite a few!

Let’s go through the week – Sunday bumped into Bulls Eye star Jim Bowen leaving the Pelirocco Hotel in Regency Square – Jim literally jumped ship from Southampton to do a show at the Udderbelly. Tuesday lunchtime spotted actor Stephen Beckett – most recently know for his role in Coronation Street, and his wife Anna Brecon (also an actress) at Pizza Express. There’s a Cheeky wedding coming up, Brighton is full of talent and Mr Big’s girls are in town

It’s time to get behind the city as Brighton has been shortlisted for “England’s Most Musical City”. We are up against Birmingham, Bristol, Colchester, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Sheffield and Newcastle. The good old British public are to decide which city gets the accolade in the six week competition. Brighton and Hove is pretty rich with musical talent, being the home of Fat Boy Slim and The Kooks, not to mention all the wealth of unsigned bands that hail from the city. Sex in the City favourites in town

The office is now getting very excited about the impending release of the new Sex in the City movie, that hits our screens next month. But if, like me, you are extremely impatient, you can get your SATC fix before the film’s release by heading down to the Udderbelly on Brighton’s Old Steine where Mr Big’s favourite burlesque act – Le Scandal, will be performing. Jo Brooks checks out a birthday party for Juice FM and delves into a spot of beatboxing

This week, the column comes to you from Watergate Bay – the location for ITV1’s Echo Beach. A beautiful stretch of coast just outside Newquay – the hotel I’m staying in was home to Jason Donovan and Martine McCutcheon while they filmed the series.

Meanwhile, back in Brighton… it was a very happy 10th birthday for Juice FM last week as the Brighton radio station celebrated the last decade with a party at Concorde 2. The drinks flowed and guests were entertained with performances from up and coming new band Passenger and a show-stopping set from Brighton’s home-grown beatboxer, Beardyman. Greta Scacchi’s gone doo-dah, while Denise Van Outen plus colourful beau lunch with unsilly Zilli

Easter weekend has always been a good time for celeb spotting in Brighton and despite the snow, this year was no different.

My first spot was The Player star Greta Scacchi. The gorgeous Ditchling-based actress was in chocolate heaven in Choccywoccydoohdah on Duke Street, hunting among the lavish Easter offerings for a birthday cake. She bought a huge chocolate fudge confection complete with firework for the top.
