Mark Brailsford celebrates a new dawn

The flags have been put away, the hangovers have faded. Now it’s down to business. The football season has started with a bang. Albion’s thrilling victory against Doncaster Rovers on 6 August has kicked off the season in spectacular fashion. Despite Gus Poyet’s plea for everyone to move on from celebrating the stadium and put the focus on the football, the stadium rocked to the sound of an emotional crowd, singing and chanting their way through an unforgettable opening Championship match.

Andrea Fox gets into a fight at Boxercise Bootcamp

You might not expect it from the title, but Boxercise Bootcamp is very much like a ballet class, with yoga stretches and some gentle leg lifts. And if you believe that then they’ve just removed the word gullible from the dictionary – who ever ‘they’ are. The title of Boxercise Bootcamp, much like Ronseal apparently, does what it says on the tin: some boxing style moves and bootcamp exercises. Still, I didn’t get to hit anyone in the face and no-one wore boots.

Mark Brailsford previews the first League game

Here we go, strap yourselves in for the emotional rollercoaster that is the new football season at our newly opened state of the art stadium. The anticipation has risen with each passing day and the culmination of a struggle of over 15 years for a new stadium ends on Saturday 6 August 2011. But here we are and I can’t wait. I have saved my first match day experience for the fist league game of the Championship season: BHAFC Vs Doncaster Rovers this Saturday. How apt the choice of opposition, how poetic the symmetry of the story that was the battle to survive for a much loved football club.

Mark Brailsford gets ready for the start of the season

With the Albion in Portugal at the time of writing and with new signing Romain Vincelot (whose nickname must surely become Sir Vincelot) joining the squad in time to join the team for pre-season, Gus Poyet’s squad is shaping up nicely. The much anticipated arrival of Will Hoskins has added an exciting, goal scoring forward to replace a bloke up front I no longer know the name of, and Will Buckley, a very promising creative player with Championship experience, has beefed up the forward options. A talented young Dutchman who has impressed in pre-season (Roland Bergkamp) and of course, the transfer coup of the Championship so far: the signing of Craig Mackail-Smith. Most teams would be more than happy with those signings. But then factor in the completion of the signing of Kazenga LuaLua (at last!) initially on loan, with a view to final purchase in January, and Christmas has come early for Albion fans already blessed with the new state of the art stadium.

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
