How does your garden grow?

Want to grow your own vegetables but lack the garden space in the city? Vertigro is the solution. This new vertical allotment (it launched last weekend!) lets you grow what you need, it’s perfect if space is an issue, and it’s attractive to look at too. Vertigro was formed by Brighton-based Claude Lester in response to her own gardening needs. “When I was diagnosed with ME/CFS, I had to stop work, so I decided to move to Brighton from London – it was the best decision I ever made,” she says. “Brighton is a smaller, friendlier and very holistic city. In my new home, I have a small roof terrace, and as I was trying to eat more healthily and organically, I started growing my own vegetables in containers. I rapidly ran out of space and, inspired by the green wall systems I’d seen, I ended up designing Vertigro.”
Vertigro will be exhibited at the Edible Garden Exhibition at Stoneleigh Park on 18 March 2011. www.vertigro.co.uk

» Emporda Spa: Winter sun

Lynne Edward tees off and takes in the sights at the luxury Emporda Golf Resort in the Costa Brava

Winter in the UK can be depressing: dark, cold evenings and the prospect of seeing very little sunshine until at least spring. As a result I grabbed the opportunity of having a last week in search of some European sunshine and flew to the Costa Brava. Whatever you may have thought about this part of Spain is possibly inaccurate: the area surrounding Girona and the northern coast of this region is simply beautiful, and the beaches are largely unspoilt. In fact, I previously visited this area about 15 years ago and was surprised to find it even better than I remembered! Read the rest of this article »

» Wave: Kevin Murphy

Hair Story: Wave finds ethical haircare brand Kevin Murphy has the perfect products for gorgeous locks

Angel Wash and Angel?Rinse for fine, coloured hair – “Impressive in its ethics in that it avoids harmful plastics in its make up, and it smells nice too. It’s difficult to rinse completely though so a very small amount is needed”

Easy Rider anti-frizz creme – “Leaves hair frizz-free even after it’s been rained on! Lovely packaging and a good product overall, but I wasn’t too impressed with the aroma”

Anti Gravity oil free volumiser – “A body-boosting cream for use on damp hair. Only a pea-size amount is needed to give hair lift. Be sure to rub your palms together first to ensure even distribution through the hair length”

Born Again Essential Treatment – “A light and intensive conditioning treatment ideal to nourish dry ends of the hair. Rinses clean and leaves hair soft and supple”

Kevin Murphy organic (toxin and paraben free) products are available to buy and are used in the salon at 90 Degrees Hairdressing, 20b Norfolk Square, Brighton, BN1 2PD, 01273 778330.

Latest TV

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
