The Vote: Brighton & Hove is Latest TV’s answer to Question Time!
Three heavyweight politicians – Lord Bassam of Brighton, Council
Leader Bill Randall, and Mike Weatherley MP – look out over the city
and debate the big political issues in Brighton and Hove. Your referee
for the event is Frank le Duc and as you might expect it makes
exciting viewing.
We also feature a film on Occupy Brighton, and Green Party Leader Caroline Lucas MP is interviewed about new local energy from wind farms and the launch of The Eco Technology Show 2012 in Brighton and Hove.
The Treason Show’s Mark Brailsford adds the essential government
information.
The Vote is Brighton & Hove’s political show and will be weekly coming soon.

Brighton Lights 34: Christmas No 1, Spamalot, Cinecity, Protest, Made 11 and Brighton Photo Fringe
Brand new show. That’s what they say and it’s true. It’s brand new – Brighton Lights number 34 in fact.
Spamalot is coming up and Andrew Kay literally gets on a ladder to the stars, in this case Todd Carty and Jodie Prenger. On this performance Mr Kay could star in panto himself!
Val Aviv goes ice skating at The Royal Pavilion and Veronica Trickett checks out great photography at The Phoenix Gallery in Brighton Photo Fringe. I recommend the gallery for lunch, ice skating at teatime and Spamalot for supper.
We look back at Cinecity – which featured Nick Broomfield’s Sarah Palin’s You Betcha! and Steve McQueen’s Shame; Made11, and Bethan Lloyd reports on the biggest protest march in Brighton in many years over public sector pensions.
Lastly, we see the battle for Xmas Number One: will it be Matt Whistler naked on a tea-tray sledging down snowy Southover Street while singing ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ or Guy and Andrea’s hilarious parody ‘Fairytale Of Brighton And Hove’?! Probably neither, but never mind, as Todd sings in Spamalot, “always look on the bright side of life!”

Matt Whistler: On X-Factor, Christmas Single 2011 and Trip Out
This year his naked sleigh ride on a tea tray in the snow had been
watched half a million times before disappearing from YouTube but now
his single and video of Merry Christmas Everyone is back thanks to the
new almost tasteful polkadot mix!!
His viral tribute to Cheryl Cole is at the front of this DVD and is my
tip for this year’s Christmas’ viral no 1. No surprise as he had the
highest tweeted comedy viral last Christmas.

Brighton Lights 33: Foodie, Guy Does, Digital and Playgroup Festivals
Everything happens in Brighton. Just ask Frankie Cocozza! And Brighton
Lights 33 has more variety than a whole series of X Factor!!
World’s best cook and mushroom champ Antonio Carluccio tells our
resident foodie Andrew Kay his secret vice. You will never guess!
Andrew and Andrea Fox then present The Food Awards and Jenni Davidson
talks to the winners, The Prince George, Idea, Infinity Foods and
Terre a Terre.
Guy Lloyd gets his bits waxed for Oxjam, well maybe I should say legs
but look and see all in Guy Does.
Then it’s two major Brighton festivals in the spotlight as we meet
climate change campaigner and producer of hit movie The Age Of Stupid,
Lizzie Gillett. Here’s someone who has made a difference and who loves
Brighton University. Jamie King explains why copyright should be for
sharing as in his controversial movie Steal This Film. Feel free to
embed Brighton Lights anywhere Jamie!!
Lastly if you haven’t seen it already -and so many of you have – a
final chance to see William Ranieri’s extraordinary film on Declan and
Phil’s Playgroup Festival starring Trans Siberian March Band,
Derrière, Boycom, The Correspondents, Quantic Y Su Combo Barbaro, but
mainly yourselves the extraordinarily showy audience!! Audience not!!
I’m tempted to say it could only have happened in Brighton but it was
in Eridge near Tunbridge Wells.
Val Aviv presents and what’s that huge thing next to her. Never seen
that in Brighton before which is where I came in.

Watts The SP and then a Cribs style look at perhaps the most arty
house on sale in Brighton with Brando and Heath Ledger on the walls
and a sound system that literally comes out of those walls and a

Then it’s on to The Brighton Comedy Festival to meet and see the stars
namely Radio1′s Chris Cox, Krater’s Stephen Grant and Universal Genius

Brighton Lights 31: Guy Does The Hoosiers
Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it’s just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans’ adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk.

Brighton Lights 29: Comedy Genes with Vicky Nangle
Matt Whistler is well known for his hilarious and daring stunts. Hundreds of thousands of people watched his antics in the snow last November for ‘Surfin’ Bird’ and his follow-up hit, ‘The Bird Is The Word’ in December. Now we see Matt bungee jump for Rockinghorse on this week’s Brighton Lights.
We put a camera on Matt’s head and took our other cameras on the platform high in the sky above Brighton with people and cars below looking like ants. Now you will know exactly what every foot of that jump looks and feels like thanks to the brilliant camerawork of Latest TV’s Piotr Dorosz and William Ranieri.
Meanwhile, Val Aviv interviews Emma Millar from Rockinghorse, the charity who have made this amazing event one of Brighton’s best days in just six years. Also on this show, Brighton’s top comedians prepare to wow Edinburgh and Victoria Nangle meets Zoe Lyons, Flange Krammer and Nick Helm, and we watch them perform excerpts from their new shows before they take them up north. As our Brighton Lights theme tune goes: “I wasn’t born here but I was born to be here!”
Val Aviv presents Brighton Lights 29. She should say: “It is amazing.”

Brighton Lights 28: Brighton Fashion Week 2011
In just a couple of year’s Brighton Fashion Week has grown from a single fashion show to a whole week of events. Not just that, but it’s unlike any other fashion week in the world, showcasing some of the most radical and creative contemporary designs, and none more so than Jess Eaton’s ‘Roadkill Couture’.
Having interviewed Jess already, we were excited to see what the collection would be like and I’m sure we weren’t the only ones. The controversial title had provoked a lot of interest. Would it really feature squashed animals?
As it turned out it was both breathtaking and tasteful with a real message, a million miles from Lady Gaga’s meat dress.
Our Brighton Lights Brighton Fashion Week special features this and more, with coverage of the whole week’s events and exclusive interviews with Jess Eaton and director of Brighton Fashion Week, Lizzy Bishop.

Brighton Lights 27: Naked Bike Ride, Brighton Festival, Cults, The Antlers, Great Wall Of Vagina
Not many people would recognise Andrew Comben but this unassuming man has given the Brighton Festival the national prominence that it always deserved. Our reporter, the equally unassuming Jenni Davidson interviews Andrew this week on the new edition of Brighton Lights.
We have too an exclusive look at the award winners from the Brighton Festival and the Brighton Festival Fringe. Two of the biggest cult bands in the world are also on our show courtesy of Brighton music filmmakers Bowlegs – The appropriately named Cults and The Antlers filmed at The Great Escape in Brighton.
We also look at three other festivals, Artists Open Houses and Jamie McCartney’s much talked about exhibition The Great Wall Of Vagina, the best of Meadowlands, The Miserable Rich and a glimpse of The Naked Bike Ride!

Brighton Lights 26: Brighton Music CIty
Brighton is now universally regarded as a music city. The industry’s main festival The Great Escape takes place in Brighton and our clubs are cutting edge cool! So this show celebrates the rise of Music City Brighton.
White Mink is now one of the hottest clubs in the UK and Val Aviv listens to his records and talks to Nick Hollywood about how he turned scratchy old 78s into ultra cool modern electro swing in his club and label Freshly Squeezed. Billie Rae and Sussex Swing add some fiery burlesque glamour and divine dance skills to Nick’s electro torch songs.
Jo Harman is the raunchiest girl blues singer since Janis and her band are equally talented. No dull introspection here, Jo is riveting to watch.
And talking of amazing bands Brian Wilson loves them and it’s easy to see why when Diana Frangi meets The Brighton Beach Boys and chats to arranger and composer Glen Richardson and singer Ralph Brown better known perhaps as star actor of Withnail and I, The Crying Game and Star Wars.
We take a look at why Echo Rain are literally rocking The House Of Commons with our reporter Mike Weatherley MP and lastly we have a preview of Brighton company Convict Films blockbuster movie The Wrong Turn directed by Hanover resident Gabriel Howard and starring Matt Whistler. It’s got great music in it in case you’re wondering.
Val couldn’t stop saying amazing and now you know why! – Bill Smith

Brighton resident Jez Eaton has been compared to Tracey Emin and Sarah Maple and is undoubtedly one of the UK’s most talented conceptual artists which means she makes you think! Last year her dresses made from Lidl bags, condoms and toilet rolls – The Trashion Show, opened eyeballs and raised eyebrows.
This year her new show is already the talk of the town and I confidently predict Roadkills Couture will be one of the UK’s most controversial fashion and art statements of the year. Controversial because as Jez Eaton says in our film all the clothes are respectfully and lovingly created from dead animals and pets hence the title Roadkills.
Obviously some disagree and you can watch our audience question Jez about the morality on a very lively Brighton Lights filmed in front of a live audience at Latest MusicBar.
Kelsey Cameron interviews actress Dakota Blue Richards about her double life as star of Skins and Sussex schoolgirl. Is Skins true to life. We find out. Music comes from the electric sound of brassy hip hoppers Boycom and the charming melodies of The Morning Orchestra.

It’s great living in Brighton. We’re visited by fantastic movie stars and famous comedians in their flocks. At least that’s how it felt when we scooted along to the European premiere of Brighton Rock at the Duke of York’s Picturehouse to catch all the glitterati and have a chat with the stars and the director of the most recent interpretation of that Graham Greene book.
Never ones to rest, we also dashed off to meet hilarious young comic Daniel Sloss. Just 20 years old, Sloss has already had a sold-out Edinburgh show, written gags for Frankie Boyle, and recorded his own TV pilot. After warming up with The Michael McIntyre Roadshow and Comedy Rocks With Jason Manford we reckoned he was ready for Brighton Lights. Catch all this and more in this week’s show.

It’s still pretty cold, dark and wintery but I can remember those carefree lazy hazy days of summers long ago. Gorgeous beach guys and dolls used to lounge around on deckchairs, swim in the sea, sunbathe on the beach and
mess around with friends even more beautiful than Pamela Anderson or David Hasselhoff.
Such was the summer of 2010. It was the birth of latest tv and what fun we had! If that doesn’t warm you up you can get in bed with Recha as she cuddles up with Oliver Heath and supreme bed maker Warren Evans. It could only happen in Brighton.

Brighton Lights 21 + The Treason Show
Anything goes in comedy. Bad taste isn’t bad if it makes you laugh. Think Frankie Boyle or Russell Brand or our own Matt Whistler. Before them, in the year 2000, the most outspoken and outrageous political comedy show of all started.
In Brighton. The Treason Show celebrated 10 glorious years at a packed Theatre Royal and our cameras filmed the jokes that would have BBC controllers in conference 24/7. Ah, the advantages of Internet TV. Matt Whistler’s naked sleigh ride down Southover Street and his subsequent bird video have been watched a million times recently. Check out some previously unseen Mad Matt on our show.
Caroline Lucas has made an almighty impact too in Hanover. See our MP in Hanover Action. Caraline Brown, organiser of The Sussex Business Awards, stepped up to present the awards show at The Grand Hotel when snow prevented the compere from arriving. See who won and who managed to arrive…

Brighton is obviously one of the coolest places on earth – Doncaster anyone? So is it any wonder we have one of the most flourishing rap scenes in Europe. Paul Alborough aka Professor Elemental has always been one of its key figures and he is now getting the attention he deserves. When you think of fireworks you think London, Paris, Sydney. Well, think again. The biggest Bonfire Night bash is in Lewes. We broke our budget (sorry George Osborne) and bought Mark Allen a few bangers and sparklers and sent him there.
Normally you might get arrested turning up in Lewes like that, but on 5 November you get arrested if you don’t turn up with them (note to anyone official — that line was a joke!). We expected Mark to go: “ooh, aah, look at that, wow, amazing,”but he insisted on using his own uniquely funny voice on his report of Lewes Bonfire Night.
Also on Brighton Lights presented by Val Aviv (fresh from her starring role in ‘Brighton Zombies’ — Brighton Lights, episode 17) is a tribute to one of Brighton’s greatest clubs, Subterfuge. Some of you will remember eighties when Paul Kemp’s Subterfuge emerged, and some of you may even have recovered! Jez Eaton’s report on Subterfuge is in this week’s show.
Mad Man Matt Whistler traps Paul Zenon in a lift for comedic purposes and Robert Cohen profiles Shoreham artist Katie Sollohub.

Our show is called Brighton Lights and this week’s programme is literally that as we feature White Night — the all night free festival — coming up in Brighton this Saturday. To find out the amazing treats in store, we sent Cat Barker and our crew on a magical mystery coach tour across the channel to sister festival Nuit Blanche Amiens in France. Brighton seafront was the scene of the Mods and Rockers battle of 1964. For the first time since, Mods and Rockers have been back on the beach, this time in peace and harmony. Julie Anne Gilburt and Sammy Jo Doubtfire recreate the battle on the beach and profile the man behind Brightona, Abby Golding. Along the way they meet motor bike legend Eddie Kidd and Gary Shail from Quadrophenia. Matt Whistler pays a comedy tribute to Norman Wisdom and Val Aviv presents Brighton Lights.

Welcome to Latest Television’s Brighton Lights! Brighton is a city full of creativity. There are plenty of cultural events to choose from every day and in this episode we sample some of them.
For a start meet John Bindon – actor, fighter, womanizer and all round ‘good geezer’ – brought to life in Franklyn McCabe’s Two Bins theatre production.
Then watch the exclusive interview with The Mirrors – a four-strong band that are ready to rock the scene with the electro-notes of their pop noir and slick and suited style. Freshly signed by Skint Records and about to set off to Europe supporting OMD, these guys have the right credentials to be the next big thing.
Next we present ‘Laura’, a new play (inspired by characters from Tennessee Williams’s classic The Glass Menagerie), written and realised by a new Brighton-based Theatre Company, Spun Glass Theatre. The piece examines the idea of romance and how it can sometimes be a barrier to finding real love.
Finally Andrew Kay, accompanied by the gorgeous Miss Hope Springs, takes you, dear viewer, on a beautiful musical journey through entertainment and politics (Carnival’ music and lyrics Ty Jeffries, © 2010, all rights reserved). Enjoy the show!

Brighton has always deserved its own tv show, now it’s got one…Brighton Lights.
Val Aviv presents Brighton’s new show.
The sun is out. I’m in a seafront café. There’s pretty people everywhere and tonight I’ve got a fabulous party to go to, darling. A hedonist’s dream and today the most beautiful place on earth. No wonder the Prince Regent commissioned John Nash to build the pleasure palace The Royal Pavilion. Brighton’s “wedding cake mansions host parties that last all night, but like me they crack and peel in the cruel daylight.” Pleasure is transient and is the subject of our film of Clare Twomey’s installation of black ceramic butterflies A Dark Day In Paradise at The Royal Pavilion. Our cameras capture beautiful but threatening images of the butterflies in this week’s Brighton Lights. Val Aviv also presents Brighton band Your Garden Day’s amazing weekend at Glastonbury Festival, Matt Whistler investigates the Lewes Road Community Garden and music from Yokoko.
