» Christmas Gifts: For The Boys

Latest 7 has some dos and don’ts when shopping for the men in your life this Christmas

When it comes to buying gifts for boys the choice is immense – and we’re not that difficult either – no, really, we’re not! We certainly know what we don’t want, that’s for sure. Few of us will be excited by novelty soap-on-a-rope, socks with Santa on them or musical ties that play ‘Jingle Bells’ when you squeeze them. And if we want gaudy jumpers with bold patterns and bright colours in synthetic yarns we’ll call our aunties and get them to knit us one.

What we do like are techno toys for boys but not pocket sets of screwdrivers and spanners and I’ve yet to meet a man who gets excited over a power tool or a work bench. These days we love good cologne, stylish ties and quality socks; smart knitwear goes down well and in fact pretty much anything that makes us look and feel good, and that includes spa treatments.

We like a good read and good music and these days most of us have found our inner gourmet and will relish anything that can be served with… well, served with relish. Men are collectors too, not beer mats and matchboxes (although a few of us secretly hanker after a train set), but art work is a popular choice and comes at a price to suit most pockets. Here in our guide of gifts for guys we have some great ideas from classics to things that will make you think outside the gift box.

Latest TV

» Brighton Lights 31

Our new programme for thelatest.tv sees Juice FM presenter Guy Lloyd investigate all manner of things. He starts off with chart-topping band The Hoosiers who were mega-successful a couple of years ago, were dropped by their major label and have become fashionably independent. Their chart-topping album cost £1 million to record, their new album £100 and we reckon it's just as good. We have exclusive footage of this new record. Guy does crazy-golfing with them, checks out their sound-check and witnesses the fans' adoration of the band at Audio in Brighton. In future shows Guy will be doing waxing, Dot Cotton, air guitar and needs your suggestions for more crazy things (or people) to do. Send to bill@thelatest.co.uk
