BREMF: The Italian High Baroque, Elin Manahan Thomas (soprano), Alison Bury (director)

This concert embodies the spirit of the Brighton Early Music Festival (BREMF), simply world class music alongside some of our best local amateur talent. Elin Manahan Thomas set the bar extremely high with two astonishingly elaborate works by Vivaldi, perfectly accompanied by the BREMF Players, an ad-hoc ensemble of top-class musicians. Their instrumental pieces too were stunning.

Difficult acts to follow, but the BREMF Singers directed by John Hancorn, rose to the occasion, performing some beautifully complex works. The most effective was Lotti’s ‘Credo’ which includes his wonderfully sensuous ‘Crucifixus’, that was so much more poignant in its proper context.
