Travellers to be moved from Brighton sports ground due to football tournament

Travellers are set to be moved on from the latest Brighton landmark after police intervention today (Wednesday July 2).

A group of about 40 vehicles were ordered to leave Withdean Park yesterday after a section 61 notice was served on the unauthorised encampment.

After some of the group were moved off Patcham Peace Gardens, off London Road, about 30 trailers are currently camped on Waterhall playing fields in Waterhall Road.

After visits from experts at Brighton and Hove City Council and police officers, a further section 61 notice has been served on the group ahead of a planned football tournament at the site this weekend.

Brighton and Hove councillors have been told that the situation is being monitored daily.
