Project Brighton: Worthing’s first ever community supported beehives hosted by South Downs Leisure and We Are FoodPioneers CIC
South Downs Leisure and local social enterprise We Are FoodPioneers CIC have teamed up to host Worthing’s first ever community supported beehives as part of the Worthing Honey Collective. Two hives were placed on the roof at Splashpoint Leisure Centre in July to house native honeybees that are looked after by a resident beekeeper, with the first honey harvest expected in 2019 once the hive has grown to full size.
The Worthing Honey Collective will involve local schools and businesses to find out more about beekeeping, pollination and honey. They are also looking to involve interested volunteers from the surrounding areas to be introduced to beekeeping in order to support them with this project and eventually keep their own bees.
