The Great Escape – Tiny Ruins
We had to fight our way through streetdancing buskers but once inside we were greeted by the soothing voices of the two New Zealanders. A gentle road-trip number was structured like a Simon and Garfunkel song, with Hollie’s guitar and Cass’s double-bass acting as the backbone. This instrumentation was a refreshing take on the recent wave of folky, female duos, yet a touch of The Secret Sisters crept in on some of the country harmonies. No bad thing and an ideal soundtrack for bookish, winsome types everywhere. All in all, this was a welcome respite from the madness outside.
