Skin care SOS
Show your skin some TLC during the colder days with these winter wonders, writes Zara Baker
Central heating and cold biting winds: the winter weather can leave our skin and hair dry and our complexions dull. Before you pile on the layers this season, give your skin some much needed TLC. We pay attention to our skin during the summer months, choosing the right SPF and moisturising combo. In the winter however, when it’s time to wrap up, it can be a case of out of sight, out of mind, and the beauty regime goes out the window.
It’s time to face the cold winds head on and replenish your skin with these winter wonders.
Keep lips kissable
With the onset of harsh, cold winds and central heating on indoors, the lips can really suffer. Not to mention, we barely drink as much water as we did over the summer to stay hydrated. Try Lanolips 101 Ointment (£11, from Waitrose) to replenish moisture and repair dry, chapped lips. It’s great for when you fly too, so be sure to pack it in your hand luggage.
On a cheaper budget, try the limited edition Vaseline Pink Bubbly (£3.49 from Boots and Superdrug). This limited edition pot of our all-time favourite lip care has a gorgeous rosé hue with the flavour of pink bubbly!
Hand in hand
Kissable lips of course go hand in hand with super soft skin. With the change in temperature, dry hands are common, especially as we go from gloves to bare hands; indoors to outdoors. Try Lanolips Rose Balm Intense for Very Dry Hands and Nails (£8.99). With added shea and cocoa butter, this has a lovely scent and nourishes the hands, fighting external aggressors that can leave our skin less than soft and supple.
Revitalise your skin
We all have a favourite body lotion. Palmers is a timeless classic with an amazing scent. Garnier also does a great range for very dry and sensitive skin. Find one to suit your skin type and be aware that it may need to be switched up when the seasons change. Just as we have to change our make-up for the change in temperature, our skin reacts differently to products depending on the environment. This season, try Fade Out White Original Moisturising Cream (£7.99 from Boots). As well as providing essential moisture for the skin, it helps restore and maintain a beautiful, radiant, even complexion. It’s the perfect pick-me-up for dull complexions.
Along with your skin, your hair and nails may need a moisture surge this winter. Try NeoCell Super Collagen & Vitamin C tablets (£12.99 for 90, from Superdrug). Whether or not you opt for hats and mittens, it’s time to keep hair and nails in tip top shape: The hydrolyzed collagen in Super Collagen + Vitamin C also reduces frown lines, is a rich source of Glycine which helps to correct weak, broken nail beds as well as thickening fine hair. These tablets also contain 75 per cent of the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of Vitamin C, which boosts the immune system!
Care for your skin this winter – the lips and hair too. No matter what the temperature is doing outside, recognise the signs of dry skin and hair and combat it with the right products.
