Brighton Fringe announces cash awards

By Tim Embleton

An arts charity is offering ten awards of £500 for young people to bring their work to next year’s Brighton Fringe.

The ten winners will also benefit from a discounted registration fee of £126.

IdeasTap, the charity behind the awards, aims to help creative young people who are at the start of their careers.

Peter De Haan, chairman of IdeasTap, said: “Funding at this crucial stage can enable young companies to create brave work that breaks them in the industry and attracts further funding.”

The awards are open to young people aged between 16 and 30 who sign up for free membership of IdeasTap and the closing date for entry is Friday 14 December.

Full details on how to apply for the awards are on the IdeasTap website.

Brighton Fringe has also announced that it is to run the Impact Award for Best Printed Publicity for a second time next year.

The award, presented by Impact Print Display, will be given to the creator of the best printed promotional campaign in the Brighton Fringe.

The winner will receive £250 in cash, as well as racked leaflet distribution by Impact worth £500 for the 2014 Fringe.

Rebecca Cooke, Impact Print Display’s business manager, said: “Impact is delighted to again be offering this fantastic prize to Brighton Fringe participants.

Having worked with Brighton Fringe from the beginning we know only too well how important flyer and poster publicity is.”

Entrants should send their poster or flyer, which must include the Brighton Fringe logo, in pdf format to awards@brightonfringe.org by midday on Friday 29 March.

The winner will be notified by email at the end of the Brighton Fringe.

Registration for Brighton Fringe is open until Monday 4 February and there is an early bird discount before Monday 10 December.

Artists, promoters and audience members can contact participantservices@brightonfringe.org or call 01273 764900 to find out more about how to take part.
