Julie Hayward doesn’t find Miranda funny
Am I the only human being in Brighton that doesn’t find Miranda funny? There, I’ve stuck my wrinkly neck out and said it! I don’t have a TV and don’t watch Catch Up on my laptop, so I hadn’t seen Miranda up and running till the other evening at a friend’s. She told me that she finds Miranda hilarious and so does her 8-year-old son, so I believed them, but it’s so not funny in my opionion, unless you’re into slapstick and people falling down, just to get a laugh.
Having said that, when I first saw Mrs Brown’s Boys, at my dad’s, I had a similar reaction, again too much slapstick, but on a second viewing, again at my dad’s last night, I actually found myself laughing along with the rest of the family. That did concern me as I’ve always prided myself on having a unique, sophisticated sense of humour. Obviously not any more. Am I becoming one of the hoi polloi, that laugh at any old rubbish? Er yes, I think I am.
Now, my one and only favourite soap, The Archers, never fails to please. Vicky’s just popped out Bethany Claire, and the proud dad’s gone off down the pub with his mates to wet the baby’s head, (how traditional), whilst Vicky’s left to worry over BC’s sucking ability or lack of it. Tom’s obsession with his sausages has reached another level – that man’s such a bore, and Lilian who must be 60 if she’s a day, is still being wined and dined by two men, not at the same time I hasten to add. What has she got that I haven’t, apart from being older than me, having a 20 a day habit and a dirty laugh?
