Brighton taxi driver robbed

A Brighton and Hove Streamline taxi driver was robbed in Hollingdean yesterday evening (Tuesday 20 December).

The cabbie was attacked by the men after picking them up in Woodingdean.

He had just dropped off a fare in Sandhurst Avenue at about 7.25pm when the two men hailed him near the junction with Warren Road.

Sussex Police said that he was robbed in Davey Drive, having been grabbed in a headlock by one of the men as he turned into Southmount Road.

The other man grabbed his float and a set of keys before they made off in an unknown direction.

Detective Sergeant Chris Sherwell, from Brighton and Hove CID, said: “This was a very worrying encounter for the taxi driver who was going about his normal business.

“We are keen to trace the suspects and would urge people to please come forward who may know the identity of the suspects.”

The suspects were described as white, about 5ft 9in to 6ft tall, in their twenties, with dark short hair. One was of thin build with a slim face and the other of stocky build with a fuller face and was wearing a white long sleeved top.
