Events: Brighton marathon
Get ready for a weekend of fun and cheer on the runners taking part in this year’s Brighton Marathon
Whether the idea of running seems like a piece of cake or brings you out in a cold sweat, the Brighton Marathon is a great local event to get involved in this year. From actually taking part, volunteering with the organisation or simply spectating, there is a terrific sense of community to join in with.
Taking place on Sunday 14 April, this year’s marathon will be monumental as it marks the first time in four years that Channel 4 will be televising an hour long highlights programme. This is a great chance for Brighton and Hove to show to the nation the beauty of the city along with the incredible atmosphere an event like this can create.
In addition to this, there will be the introduction of the new Village Area, situated adjacent to the finish line on Madeira Drive. It’s the perfect place for spectators to hang out and watch the runners on their last few steps, with music, big screen, food and drink as well as some well-deserved Foster’s beer provided by the event’s sponsors.
Talking of sponsors, Iconic Shlurp! is proud to get behind this year’s Mini Mile Races, one of the UK’s largest under 18’s running events. This year, the kids will join in the last mile of the main race route as part of their course in order to join in the exhilaration with the rest of the participants and they will recieve a T-shirt, goody bag and medal to end their experience.
Although the Brighton Marathon falls on a Sunday, this event is something to enjoy all weekend with the Brighton Centre opening their doors on Friday and Saturday for a free exhibition, showcasing charities, brands and sponsors. Download The Brighton Marathon App in order to make the most of the weekend, helping you to find your way around the course, track people who are running and find the perfect bar or restaurant for post-race celebrations.
