Worthing painter charged after fatal crash in Hangleton

A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a crash in Hove in June last year.

Joseph Simon Lavelle, 36, a painter, of Lyndhurst Road, Worthing, has also been charged with careless driving causing death while under the influence of alcohol.

The charges follow an investigation by the Sussex Police Road Policing Unit.

Officers were called after a crash on the A27 in Hangleton on Thursday 23 June in which Alf Filer, 58, of Elm Grove, Worthing, died.

Mr Filer was believed to have been standing next to his broken down Vauxhall Astra when a Peugeot 306 crashed into it.

The collision is thought to have led to the Astra hitting Mr Filer.

Lavelle is due to appear on bail at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 19 January.
