Brighton MP asks Network Rail to upgrade service for students and Albion fans

Simon Kirby, the Conservative MP for Brighton Kemptown, has urged executives at Network Rail to upgrade the signalling at Falmer Station.

He called on them to ease the congestion that affects Brighton and Hove Albion fans on match days and thousands of students at peak times.

At today’s meeting (Monday 8 July) he also asked them to lay on longer and more frequent trains.

Mr Kirby said: “I raised a number of issues, including the need for improved signalling at Falmer, to help reduce congestion for people wishing to use the train to get to and from Falmer.

“To encourage people to use public transport, it is important that the public transport facilities are adequate.

“Improvements to the signalling could help ease the problem of long queues at the station and crowded platforms for people leaving the (football) ground and other rail users.

“This was an issue I was keen to impress on Network Rail as action on this matter could make a real difference for people.”
