Some Like It Hotter

This play/musical had all the ingredients of a really good production. A multi-talented cast, an original story, recognisable characters, fab tunes etc etc. And yet something was missing. It lacked a bit of crackle, sparkle, the undefinable characteristic in a performance that makes it fizz with excitement. The writer has cleverly used the film plot and characters from ‘Some Like It Hot’ as a back drop, but this isn’t real life nor a stage reproduction of the film, it’s some sort of part-time pleasant purgatory for pianist ‘Red Hot Charlie’ and his recently departed mother to live out a fantasy. I liked it but I wanted little more depth.
