Firefighters from Brighton and Hove help tackle Newhaven factory blaze

Firefighters from Brighton and Hove were sent to help tackle a blaze at a perfume factory in Newhaven early this morning (Thursday 7 November).

About 60 firefighters were sent to deal with the suspected arson at the Quintessence Fragrances factory on the Hawthorne Industrial Estate in Avis Way, Newhaven.

The aerial ladder platform from Preston Circus was one of two being used along with 12 fire engines between about 1.45am and 7.30am.

Crews from Hove and Roedean in Brighton also turned out, with several industrial units reported to be alight.

At 7.30am East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said that the fire was surrounded and under control.

The A26 and A259 were open to traffic although Avis Way remained closed.

Two fire engines remained at the scene and fire investigators were due to start work on trying to work out the cause of the blaze.

The fire service said that Sussex Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended although there were no reports of any injuries.
