Bonobo

The Brighton-based King of Chill Out’s stock has risen considerably in recent times, and with that has come a significant step up in the size of venues he plays and the scale of shows he produces. But while this show was technically brilliant, with faultless musicianship from his large ensemble and impressive visuals, something crucial seems to have been lost along the way. The gig lacked the punch of earlier performances and was almost too clinical in its execution. There were moments of brilliance when it did break through these shackles (mainly when Bonobo was left alone on stage to delve into the deepest recesses of his electronic genius) but unfortunately these were all too fleeting.
