Two in court over Brighton charity box thefts

A man and a woman from Brighton have been charged with a string of charity box thefts from shops and restaurants in the area.

Martin Grimshaw, 42, of Marine Parade, Brighton, has been charged with nine counts of theft.

And Marish Maria Donegan, 27, also of Marine Parade, was charged with five counts of assisting an offender.

The thefts were alleged to have taken place from last November to last month.

Grimshaw and Donegan were arrested by officers from Sussex Police yesterday (Thursday 2 February).

The pair appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court this afternoon (Friday 3 February).

Grimshaw denied six charges of theft and was bailed until Friday 27 April. He is expected to be tried at Brighton Crown Court on a date to be arranged.

Donegan admitted all five counts and was given a nine-month community order with supervision and a six-month high intensity drug treatment order.
