Passer-by thwarts robbery in Brighton

A passer-by thwarted an armed robbery in Brighton on Saturday night (11 October).

Two men threatened a 35-year-old man with a knife, in London Road, Brighton, and demanded that he hand over his property just before 11pm.

They chased him but ended up running off empty-handed after a stranger intervened.

He saw the victim being threatened and told the two men to “leave him alone”. They scarpered.

Detective Constable James Botting said: “We are appealing for this man who intervened to contact us and any other witnesses who saw the incident to come forward.”

Two men, a 23-year-old from Lancing and a 20-year-old from Findon Valley, Worthing, were both arrested near by on suspicion of attempted robbery and having a controlled drug.

“They were questioned and the 23-year-old was released on bail until (Wednesday) 26 November and the 20-year-old was released on bail until (Sunday) 30 November.”

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101 or 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk.
