Ben Frost

Experimental rock/noise artist Ben Frost’s opening of distorted guitar in a screechy, drone sort of way was striking and powerful, although there were later softer keyboard or synth moments to break up the din for those who were overwhelmed. Staged almost like a face off, Frost faced his drummer the whole time, creating a wonderful sense of energy, shifting dynamics and interplay. The drumming was superb, often using the rim for a scattered, challenging effect which was far more impressive than beat keeping or flowery fills. What sounded like werewolf noises and strobe lighting were just two other thrillingly unnerving moments in a mesmerising, forceful, immersive and enjoyable experience.
