Charles Linehan Company

In the first part of the programme we watched an interesting film project, unfinished, which using drones, maps choreographic pattern making from the sky. Fascinating stuff where ant like creatures cast elongated human shadows against a sadly dull soundtrack.
Next Balletboyz appear in a short, perhaps not short enough, work lampooning classical ballet mime. It was a small joke made too big and too long and one could not help feel that it under-utilised the presence of two very good dancers.
After the interval A Quarter Plus Green, a far more engaging work in which the dancers are finally seen in a piece that layers movement, light and sound in a fascinating display of interacting figures. Linehan creates interesting shapes using the human form but is also an exceptionally talented lighting designer and in this his lighting plays a very important part. All in all a curate’s egg of an evening saved by the final work.
