Police Cops
This Hi-NRG camp recreation of a ’70s cop buddy movie sees little Jimmy Johnson growing up to be “the best darned police cop, ever!”. The Pretend Men’s occasionally holey script (the sci-fi prologue is never resolved) is counterbalanced by the sheer vitality of their performance, as they hilariously rattle through classic TV cop tropes, while creating new ones. Unfortunately the trio were squished into a tiny hothouse of a performance space, which limited the amount of physical theatre they could perform, but regardless, this was fast, frenetic, bare-chested fun, with confident performers exemplifying grace under pressure.
