Declan the dog has his own blog…
Doggy tales – Each week Latest 7 will regale you with tales about the dogs who live in Brighton (via their owners) and also introduce you to rescue dogs, looking for forever homes.
This week, meet Declan, who is owned by Rachel Bailey Palumbo…
“We had just moved to the Cayman Islands the week before and were on Seven Mile Beach, in Grand Cayman. Every Sunday they bring down some of the Humane Society dogs for beach training, in the hope that tourists will see them and want to adopt.
“We’d previously seen him in the shelter and spotted him on the beach. He was very timid and wasn’t a big fan of being stroked, but it was love at first sight, three days later we’d adopted him.
“When he became part of our family we felt he should have a new name (he was called Saint). After many failed ideas ourselves, we started asking friends and a dear Irish friend came up with Declan. She’s now officially his ‘dog mother’.
“Now he’s been introduced to English pub life, he usually tries to drag us into our local at any time of the day. He’s a big fan of peanuts and Guinness foam. When he’s not found in a pub, he adores racing around any sandy beach. His paws haven’t yet gotten used to the Brighton stones. He’s been spoilt by the Caribbean.”
