BREMF LIVE – Lux Musicae London
This very entertaining programme brimmed full of fun and even an element of competition. Mirja-Luise Münzel and Sophie Creaner (recorders) started by playfully imitating a chicken and cuckoo marriage/fight. We heard two sensitive Renaissance love songs each followed by splendidly complex diminutions on the same themes. Tenor Daniel Thomson, accompanied only by Harry Buckoke’s attentive viola-da-gamba, delivered vocal flourishes most appropriate for fireworks night. Roberta Diamond (soprano), Aileen Henry (harp) and Anna Waszak (violin) gave this exciting ensemble a remarkable variety of style and musical colour. Performing without a conductor their cheerful communication between themselves reached out into the audience.
