Ben Carpin on Filming the White Cliffs of Sussex and their Ancient History

Andrew Kay talks with filmmaker and photographer Ben Carpin about his documentary project on the White Cliffs of Sussex. Carpin discusses the geological history of the cliffs – formed millions of years ago from the calcium carbonate remains of microscopic algae – as well as the prehistoric creatures and ancient marine life found in the area, such as ammonites and early sharks. They also cover the impact of climate change and coastal erosion on the cliffs, their popularity as international tourist landmarks, and the importance of respecting their fragile and dangerous nature.
