Jodie Kidd celebrates as Brighton is named Britain’s most dog-friendly place

Jodie Kidd steps out to celebrate Brighton’s new title, plus Sally Gunnell, Zoe Ball & X Factor’s Eddy

Fashion model and TV personality Jodie Kidd stepped out in Brighton last week as our city was named the most dog-friendly place in Britain! Brighton and Hove was announced as the winner of Cesar’s search for ‘Britain’s Most Dog-Friendly Place’, chosen by a panel of judges led by Cesar ambassador Jodie Kidd. Brighton and Hove was selected following a nationwide hunt where Cesar asked people to nominate their favourite place to visit with their dog.

Brighton and Hove, which made the shortlist alongside Padstow and Harrogate, was crowned winner due to its wide variety of open spaces and ease of canine accessibility, making it the ideal place for owners to spend quality time with their dogs.

Jodie Kidd, model and dog-lover, said: “It was great to see what the establishments of Brighton and Hove had to offer me and my dog, Dooby. We’ve received some great suggestions throughout the nomination campaign, but Brighton came out on top.”

All strung up

Another year, another local contestant on The X Factor. This time round it’s Worthing boy Eddy String, who impressed judges Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh, Leona Lewis and Tulisa. The 18-year-old got through to the Boot Camp part of the show with his rendition of The Strokes’ hit ‘Last Nite’. While he clearly wowed the crowd in the studio, the Twitter backlash has already begun. Love him or loathe him, we’ve not heard the last of young
Mr String…

Strictly ball

Meanwhile on the other side of the box, the line-up for Strictly Come Dancing has been announced and with it a surprise for Brighton’s Zoë Ball. Her lovely dad, Johnny Ball, will be slipping on the sequinned lycra and taking to the floor as Strictly’s oldest ever contestant. Zoe will be returning to reprise her role as presenter of the spin-off show It Takes Two when the show returns in a few weeks.

Gunnell keeps it fresh

Olympic gold medal winner Sally Gunnell OBE has shown her dedication to fresh, local produce by becoming patron of the Sussex Food & Drink Awards. “It is much healthier to eat fresh, local food – and it’s great to support your community at the same time, so I am a huge advocate of eating local,” said Sally Gunnell, who grew up on a farm and has lived in Sussex for many years: “I enjoy my food – it’s part of my relaxation – I enjoy eating out and the social side of it, sharing something really good – but I also believe we are the role models for our children and I eat fresh and local with them whenever I can – and we’re blessed with fantastic food here in Sussex.”

Reading Bethan

Watch out for local author Bethan Roberts, who you will be seeing and hearing a lot of in the city over the coming weeks. That’s because Bethan’s novel, My Policeman, is the focus of this year’s City Reads, one of my favourite festivals on the city’s calendar. A highlight of the festival for me will be seeing Bethan in conversation with Eats, Shoots and Leaves author Lynne Truss (7 October).
