Following our highly successful inaugural year, the Brighton and Hove Property Consortium are ready to get back in the saddle for the Brighton2Paris Charity Cycle Ride 2017 sponsored by Oakley Property & The Hyde Group.

This year’s event is once again supporting the Mayor’s 27 chosen charities and in addition, the ABF Soldiers’ Charity.

The cycle ride will depart from Brighton’s seafront on Thursday 4th May and return on Monday 8th May 2017. Over the course of the five days, the cycle team will travel via Newhaven, Dieppe, Paris, Versailles, Evreux, and Lisieux to arrive in Ouistreham on the Normandy coast on Sunday 7th. We are being joined by supporters, well wishers and military veterans including the ‘Chelsea Pensioners’ who will be waving us off from Newhaven.

Whilst in France we will be flying the flag to promote Brighton & Hove as a major tourist and cultural destination. We will be welcomed by both the Mayors of Dieppe and Ouistreham together with their diplomats to promote the links between our two countries.

The cycle route passes through the beautiful French countryside and although some of the terrain is fairly tough, there will be downhill sprints to ease the pain.

Jon Orrell of the Hemsley Orrell Partnership commented: “I’m really excited that we will visit the D-Day Landing sites in Ouistreham and I have arranged a memorial reception and celebration for our arrival.”

Monday 8th May will see the cyclists cross the finish line in New Road, Brighton as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival’s Charity & Community Fun Day. The Brighton & Hove Property Consortium has collaborated with the festival to create this dedicated event to mark the end of the cycle ride.

We hope that residents and visitors come along to enjoy the family entertainment in New Road

Colin Brace of the Brighton & Hove Property Consortium: “The property community already contributes so much to the city’s economy by way of employment opportunities, apprenticeships and much needed housing. This is an ideal opportunity for our members to give something back directly to those who need of our help. We are pleased that this event has grown to become one of the major events on the city’s fundraising calendar. We hope that residents and visitors come along to enjoy the family entertainment in New Road on Monday 8th May.

The Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Pete West is cycling the entire route on a tandem cycle. A giant outdoor screen will televise the Mayor launching the Fringe Festival fireworks at St Peter’s Church in Brighton by way of a live video link from the base of The Eiffel Tower in Paris on Thursday 4th May.

Chris Oakley of Oakley Property and Tom Shaw of The Hyde Group: “We jumped at the chance to be the main sponsors of the Brighton2Paris Charity Cycle Ride for a second year running as the event supports the Mayor’s Charities, so it gives us the opportunity to give to a really worthwhile range of causes which do great work in our local community. The event is particularly relevant to us as part of the Brighton & Hove Property Consortium. It gives us the chance to ride alongside some likeminded property people for what is a great fun event, but also means that the property industry, as both a major player and beneficiary of the Brighton & Hove economy, is giving something back to the community which supports it.”

Mike Oliver of Mike Oliver Associates: “I am delighted to be a sponsor for the Brighton2Paris Charity Cycle Ride 2017. While promoting cycling and fitness at such a fun event, we are supporting the Mayor’s charities and the ABF Soldiers’ Charity – all truly worthy causes. I am excited to be a part of such a community-oriented event and I’m sure there will be great camaraderie for all of the 150 miles.”

The event will be raising money for the Mayor’s 27 selected charities as well as the ABF Soldiers’ Charity. We have set up a JustTextDonate number via JustGiving (Text ‘BAHP67 £3’ to 70070) and have a JustGiving team event page: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/BAHPC2017
