Celebcity with Jo Brooks: Peter hates plastic

Peter Andre goes environmental, Matt Prior’s benefit year, Mayor Anne Meadows & Peter James

Peter Andre
Last week we were lucky enough to join forces with the one and only Peter Andre and the fantastic SodaStream to raise awareness for Climate Week. Posing against a 26ft sculpture made of plastic bottles, Pete helped to highlight the issue of plastic bottle waste and its devastating effects on UK coastlines. Pete commented: “UK beaches are being destroyed by an ever growing tide of plastic bottle waste and it is time to take action. I have grown up by the beach and have seen firsthand the effects plastic litter has on our environment – not only is it an eyesore, it’s harmful to wildlife and a health hazard for our kids.” SodaStream tackles the problem of excessive plastic waste by creating the same fantastic pop drinks at home, so there’s no need to keep buying! It was good to see Peter getting involved in a bit of eco-love and it only fanned the flame of our Lisa’s crush, who exclaimed on camera for Peter Andre’s ITV2 show that she was ditching her former celebrity fave (George Michael) for our Pete from now on.
Anne Meadows
the Mayor’s gala dinner
TV’s Simon Fanshawe was one of the famous faces who joined Anne Meadows, Mayor of Brighton & Hove, for her Gala Dinner on Friday 9 March. Taking place at the very fitting Royal Pavilion guests raised money for charities while getting into character – donning medieval garb for a few cheeky photos.
Stuart Broad
Matt Prior’s Benefit Luncheon
Sadly the England cricketer Matt Prior couldn’t make it to his own benefit recently as he had to pop off to Sri Lanka to join his team – but that didn’t stop us having a ball! Over 400 guests came together for Matt Prior’s Benefit Year luncheon at The Grand Hotel, Brighton, to raise money for Chesnut Tree House Children’s Hospice and the Professional Cricketers’ Association Benevolent Fund. Fellow England Team members, Stuart Broad and Steve Finn, were there looking very dapper and they were joined by Peter Moores, Sussex stalwart and one of the game’s most respected coaches, and Alec Stewart, England wicket-keeper/batsman and patron for Matt’s Benefit Year. Matt even joined us via the medium of video message to say he was there in spirit. To find out more, visit www.mattpriorbenefityear2012.com

Peter James meets FSDS
The lovely Fiona Stewart of Rottingdean’s exclusive FSDS jewellery shop sponsored a literary luncheon in the White Horse the other week. Run by local author Peter James, of the bestselling Roy Grace crime novels, it was good to see a meeting of Brighton’s great literary minds. James is well known for including local people in his Brighton-based books – so perhaps keep an eye out for Fiona and her jewellery in a future novel!
